Vision & Values

Foundation

Freshwaters Christian Fellowship was founded in 1992 as a small community of believers committed to loving and serving the Lord Jesus Christ, one another, and the people of Harlow.

Why ‘Freshwaters’

During the period that we were praying about the name for the Fellowship, Phil and Steph Jones (The first leaders of Freshwaters) were looking for a home.  One of the houses they looked at was on the ‘Freshwaters’ estate in Harlow.

Although they did not buy this house, the name appeared to be such a good picture of all we intended to be as a Fellowship – fresh, lively, refreshing, and forever flowing with the love of God into the community of Harlow and beyond

During the same period we felt that God had also begun to speak to us about the river of life described in Ezekiel 47.

We felt it was the name God had for us – so we became Freshwaters Christian Fellowship.

Our Vision

In the early days of Freshwaters we felt God confirmed to us through 2 independent prophetic words, one given to Phil Jones and the other to Freshwaters, that we were founded to fulfil the calling expressed in Luke 1:17.

“And he will go on before the Lord in the spirit and the power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers to their children and the disobedient to the wisdom of the righteous-to make ready a people prepared for the Lord” (NIV).  This verse in the New Testament comes from a quote taken from the very end of the Old Testament (Malachi 4:5-6)

“See I will send you the prophet Elijah before that great and dreadful day of the Lord comes.  He will turn the hearts of the fathers to their children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers; or else I will come and strike the land with a curse.” (NIV)

We continue to seek to work out this vision through who we are, what we say and what we do, as individuals and as a community of believers.

Called to Netteswell

During the summer of 2011 we felt God begin to speak to us about moving from our home in the ARC in Old Harlow, into the new town.  After considerable prayer, discussion and reflection we felt God was calling us to the Netteswell ward right in the centre of Harlow.

Our desire is to see ‘Freshwaters Gathering Place’ established, a place where members of the church and the local community feel they can belong, which is open throughout the week providing a warm welcome and practical help and support to the Netteswell community.

Our Mission

Our mission is to be 'church at the heart of the community', encouraging those within the church to develop in their relationship with Jesus, while reaching out to those in the wider community with the love of God.

Our Values

Humbly serving the Lord, one another and the community;
Patiently Proclaiming the truth and the power of the gospel;
Wholeheartedly following the Lord under the direction of the Holy Spirit ;
Generously hospitable as a Fellowship and as individuals & families;
Extravagantly worshipful embracing worship as a natural part of our personal & corporate life;
Intentionally Prophetic listening carefully for the Lord’s voice and carefully passing on what we believe He is saying.

Our Aims

We are seeking with God’s help to be:-

A WORSHIPPING PEOPLE
As a worshipping people we seek to draw close to God, giving Him the praise and honour due His name.

We believe that spending time in the presence of God through worship is critical, both for our own relationship with God and in order to receive from Him for ourselves and for the community around us.

A PROPHETIC PEOPLE
We seek to operate ‘in the spirit and power of Elijah’ by being a prophetic people i.e. those ready and willing to hear God’s word and speak it wherever we are sent.

We believe that as we draw close to God in worship we will receive His word for people and situations today which we will be asked to communicate to those around.

A PROCLAIMING PEOPLE
We believe that God has called us to proclaim to those around us what we have received from Him.

This includes the Good News of salvation through Jesus as well as words of prophecy, words of knowledge or words of testimony.

We proclaim not just with our words but through the way that we live our lives day by day.

A  FAMILY  PEOPLE
We believe God has called us to be a ‘Church for everyone’, where all feel welcome, valued, cared for and encouraged in their walk with God and their fellowship with one another.

As part of this we seek to build relationship between generations.
